As we begin 2026, we’re sharing an important update on how you can export and continue building your existing 8th Wall projects before our platform shutdown on February 28, 2026.
Today, we’re releasing Buildable Code Export, which lets you export a fully buildable, playable version of your project. This release also includes the first distribution of the 8th Wall Engine Binary, enabling you to continue developing and running your experiences locally after platform access ends.
Understanding Buildable Code Export
With Buildable Code Export, you can now export everything required to build and run an offline version of your project, including:

8th Wall Transition Update: Engine Distribution and Open Source Plans
Dec 18, 2025 10:43:12 AM / by 8th Wall posted in Announcements
Thank you for the thoughtful messages you’ve shared since we shared we’re winding down 8th Wall. We’ve heard a mix of appreciation, concern, and very practical questions about what comes next. Since that announcement, our focus has been on providing clear guidance so you can plan ahead with confidence.
Today, we’re sharing an update on the structure of the transition: what will be distributed, what will be open sourced, and what will no longer be supported after the end of hosted services in 2027. Some details are still being finalized, but we want to give you an early look to help you plan. As such, this post focuses on the shape of what’s to come rather than an exhaustive feature list.
Distributed 8th Wall Engine Binary (Limited-Use)
8th Wall’s core capabilities rely on proprietary computer vision and tracking technology that cannot be open sourced. At the same time, we want to support continued development with these capabilities once platform hosting ends in February 2027. To do that, we will release the 8th Wall Engine as a free distributed, closed-source binary.
Details on the engine distribution license type are still being finalized. Once released, use of the engine will be governed by the distribution license provided with the binary.
What’s included in the engine binary
The distributed engine binary includes many of the core AR capabilities of 8th Wall, including:
Thank You For Building With Us: The Next Chapter for 8th Wall
Nov 20, 2025 12:03:47 PM / by 8th Wall posted in Announcements
After more than seven incredible years, we’ve made the difficult decision to wind down the 8th Wall service.
While this chapter is closing, we are committed to ensuring the legacy of the technology continues. We are actively exploring options to open source key components of 8th Wall technology and documentation to make them available to the community.
Our goal is to make this transition clear and predictable by preserving ongoing work, supporting exports, and opening the technology to the next generation of builders.
What’s Happening
Live projects, hosted experiences, and active campaigns will remain online and fully operational through February 28, 2027. Nothing will change overnight. Developers will have time to complete campaigns and export their work before the platform fully shuts down.
All 8th Wall products and services - including 8th Wall Studio, Cloud Editor, and Asset Lab - will be shut down in stages:
From the start, 8th Wall has been about removing limits for creators.
We brought AR to the web so anyone could experience it on their phone. We expanded 3D creation with Studio and made it free. And in the past few months, we’ve gone further with Asset Lab, the 8th Wall Desktop App, and Native App Export — giving builders more freedom to create and share their work on their own terms.
Now it’s time for the next leap.

Leveling Up Physics in 8th Wall Studio
Sep 10, 2025 2:30:29 PM / by 8th Wall posted in Announcements, For Developers
Physics in 8th Wall Studio just got an upgrade. With the release of Studio Runtime v2.0.0, we rebuilt our physics engine from the ground up. The result: faster, more reliable performance and new tools like kinematic bodies and high precision collision detection that make building interactive gameplay easier than ever.
Script motion that feels real with Kinematic Bodies
Sometimes you need an object to follow a precise path but still behave like part of the physics world. Think of the moving platforms in a Mario-style level: they slide back and forth on a set path, but still carry the player and interact with the environment. Kinematic bodies make that possible by letting you directly set an object’s position, rotation, or velocity while it remains inside the physics simulation.
Unlike static objects that never move or dynamic ones driven only by forces, kinematics give you predictable, authored motion that still feels real.
This feature unlocks new types of gameplay in Studio: trains that move along a track while props and enemies react around them, elevators and trap doors that push objects aside on a timeline, or enemies and vehicles that follow set paths while still colliding, blocking, and reacting to the world.
Build reliable collision at any speed with high precision collision detection
Fast-moving objects are one of the trickiest parts of game physics. Ever fired an arrow in an RPG and watched it pass straight through the enemy? That’s what happens when collisions aren’t detected between frames.
With the new high precision collision detection settings in Studio, you decide when to use simplified vs. detailed, accurate collision checks on your objects. That means collisions that matter most — bullets hitting targets, sword swings connecting, or racing cars crashing — always register, without weird tunneling effects in your scene.
Ship with confidence using all-new runtime versioning
This release also introduces runtime versioning in Studio. Starting with v2.0.0, you can pin projects to a specific runtime for predictable performance and choose when to opt into new features.
Announcing Native App Export for iOS in 8th Wall Studio
Sep 9, 2025 12:51:36 PM / by 8th Wall posted in Announcements
Today, we’re introducing Native App Export for iOS, giving you a simple way to take what you’ve built in 8th Wall and bring it to the iOS App Store.
At 8th Wall, our goal has always been to make it easier for you to reach audiences with your 3D and AR experiences. For years, that meant no app required, with instant access from a single link and no downloads or friction. Now, it means flexibility. With this update, you can export to native when you need, publish to the web when you want, and manage it all from the same editor. No specialized knowledge, no extra pipelines, just a direct path from idea to app.
