Last month we introduced Asset Lab, a new feature in 8th Wall to generate images, 3D models as well as rigged and animated characters and directly import them into a scene of your project. 

Developers are already putting Asset Lab to work for their projects. In fact, we have seen our first game be created using assets entirely from this generation tool. Check out this casual fishing game, Reel Tension created by Declan Johnson. Declan used the Asset Lab to generate the different fish you have to catch in game. Additionally he also used Asset Lab to generate the different shadow images indicating that a fish is in the area. 

Today, we are pleased to announce a brand new way to access Asset Lab as well as celebrate some improvements to this new tool which will make 3D generation even better. We are also highlighting a new capability in the Project Library to help you find the right resources faster.

Access Asset Lab in and out of Studio

Asset Lab can now be accessed in two convenient places: inside Studio and now in your Workspace menu.

Both places let you access Asset Lab, our end-to-end workflow designed to guarantee optimal output of images, 3D assets, as well as rigged and animated characters. With Asset Lab easily accessible in the Workspace, you can enable the designers and creative team members on your team to quickly access the tool to work on assets instead of having to ask them to open a specific project to do so. 

Asset Lab allows you to download assets directly to your computer or import them directly into a project. And all assets any of your team members generate will be made available to all users in your Workspace for any project.  

Updated GenAI models to generate higher quality assets

Asset Lab’s modular model framework ensures that we can make use of the latest and greatest models from the fast-moving AI space. At launch, we supported  OpenAI’s GPT Image 1, Flux.1 Kontext, and Trellis. While you have the option to choose from a variety of models our workflow defaults to the ones we have seen show the most optimal output for each asset type. 

We are pleased to announce that we have updated Asset Lab with Hunyan 3D-2.1, a new model from Tencent capable of producing 3D models with photorealistic light interaction using PBR materials (metalness, roughness and diffuse maps).

We’ve also added support for Flux Schnell, a lower cost option for text-to-image generation. 

Bring your own assets to Asset Lab

You can now upload your own images and 3D models as inputs to various workflows. Whether you're generating a 3D model from an image you created or adding a rig and animations to your own character model, this update makes it easier than ever to build on assets you already have. It's a powerful upgrade for anyone who has a starting point and wants to use Asset Lab to turn their existing work into game-ready models and fully animated characters.

Optimize generated 3D models with more control

You now have hands-on tools to refine your generated 3D models right inside Asset Lab. Fine‑tune visuals and performance with options to:

• Apply Draco compression

• Enable or disable PBR materials

• Adjust smooth shading, texture brightness and resolution

• Simplify mesh geometry

• Update model scale and pivot point

This update gives you precise, in-platform control over your 3D assets, removing friction from the iteration cycle and reducing the need to use external tools like Blender for model tweaks.

New Code Search in Project Library

Project Library has been an integral resource for developers. It offers inspiring examples and foundational code to get you started creating with 8th Wall. With so many innovative projects to explore, finding the exact piece of code or specific implementation you need can sometimes feel like searching for a needle in a haystack. That's why we're thrilled to introduce a more streamlined way to navigate this rich repository: an enhanced code search functionality! Now, you can quickly pinpoint relevant snippets, discover best practices, and accelerate your development process by directly searching within the project code itself.

The new way to access Asset Lab, model updates and improvements as well as code search in the Project Library are available to all 8th Wall users, including those on the Free plan, now. You can get started at 8thwall.com.
