How Hogarth India and Xtendr used 8th Wall to enable Federal Bank to connect with customers as part of their Onam Festival campaign

For Onam, Kerala’s biggest festival, Federal Bank wanted to do more than push ads. Working with Hogarth India and Xtendr and using the 8th Wall platform along with AI tools like WPP Open, Federal Bank launched a heartfelt campaign rooted in digital storytelling. 

 

By scanning a QR code shared in branch communications, outdoor ads, in-branch displays, and even the metro, customers were transported into a rich AR experience. Thousands of bespoke festive greetings were shared one-on-one by Federal Bank managers across Kerala, using the immersive experience as a personal touchpoint with their customers. Using their smartphone, customers saw petals rain down from the sky, a Kathakali dancer perform in the space in front of them while a vallam kali trumpet played in the background, all using web-based augmented reality.

This campaign used the AR capabilities of 8th Wall including World Effects to enable real-time 3D animations to appear in the space in front of a user, and Image Targets to bring to life newspaper and print ads. It also employed the use of AI-assisted motion design using WPP Open to create the assets.  

According to the agency, Hogarth India, the response was immediate. Customers sent back messages of joy, surprise, and nostalgia. Social impressions grew, especially among younger users, while branch managers reported that the experience sparked stronger connections with their communities.

Federal Bank’s Onam campaign is a great example of how immersive technology can strengthen relationships in an increasingly digital world. By blending tradition with AR and AI, they proved that tech doesn’t have to feel heavy. It can feel human.
